I was limiting my criticism to point out an example of broad overstatement that peppers itself throughout the tome.

As for Ludlow, I had cousins who were organizers at Ludlow. My great grandfather was a miner at Ludlow. Though I have a complicated view of unions and union organizing, what happened at Ludlow was nothing short of monstrous.

That doesn't mean that a single event accounts for the entirety of the history of labor struggles in this country however. It was in fact a movement that spread across the political spectrum from the more conservative AFL to the more pan-unionist CIO and the even more radical IWW. So to categorize it through one event is poor analysis, indeed.

True, history is infinitely nuanced (although I don't think this excuses the wholesale slaughter of millions of people in the name of greed and avarice) and offering a truly complete account of all of "American" history in a single text would be impossible. Further, limiting criticism to a single chapter of a book is poor reviewing indeed, especially since the review is based on the author's lack of a complete treatment of material. I wonder what "nuance" Mr. D would rely on to excuse or mitigate the actions at Ludlow, which are later related by Zinn in People's History.
